IMU: Phase I Convocation 2010

So the convocation for the completion of Phase I Medicine at IMU was today, the 21st of August, 2010. I’m officially done and have my spanky, shiny official completion certificate! :) Congratulations to all my beloved batchmates of ME1/08. This is our mid-point. And a huge congrats to Prof Chia & Emi for their high achiever awards & dean’s list achievement! :)

What my 2 & 1/2 years in IMU has come to.

Yes, I am a little bummed that I didn’t end up on the dean’s list but after seeing my marks on my official transcript I understand why. Oh well! I know I’ve put in my best, and mum, dad & God are perfectly happy with that. I should be too.

Oh, IMU! Gonna miss it all.

Ok, so the IMU MBBS isn’t the program I’m doing since I’m twinning to a partner medical school, but it’s a nice picture of me in official grad regalia for the day. I likes my black Charles & Keith platform ballerina pumps. And my pretty white + gold nails which I did especially for today (which you can’t see)! This was taken after the procession, for, as you can see, I’ve already gotten my (empty) scroll. Opted for a cheongsam because I like how the mandarin collar peeks out, and it’s nicer than any of the formal dress shirts or skirts I have. The bouquet (WHICH HAS LILIES & A PRETTY SUNFLOWERRRR) was from mummy and daddy :) We originally didn’t plan on getting me a bouquet because this isn’t the proper grad, but they still did! <3 Love you both.

IMU Ball 2010 : Audacieux @ Royale Chulan

Previously, I blogged about the IMU Ball ’08 (Sensationale Symphony) & the IMU Ball ’09 (Clair de Lune).

This time around, it’s my ball, the IMU Ball 2010 : AUDACIEUX / dare to be, held at the Taming Sari Ballroom, Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur. :))) Carries a lot of significance and great memories. Of time spent in this little, converted shopping-mall-of-a-place for two and a half years, mugging medical books.

Quickie

The IMU Ball is this Saturday, the 10th of April! EXCITED yet apprehensive about so so so so many preparations that are underway. A lot of design work is happening SO last minute, but such is life. The budget is cutting so so so very close…

Joash, Ben & I won the IMU’s Got Talent competition this year as Cadenza, a three-piece outfit. <3 Thank you to all our supporters. All glory to God! We now have a RM400 travel voucher which we have no idea what to do with. And a plastic trophy.

I haven't been studying OR attending lectures. -_- I smell doom.

Got through the prelims voting for Ball King & Queen, but am fairly undecided about how enthusiastic I am to win. Rrrawr. Does it matter or is it all vanity?

Many questions have crossed my mind. Don't know if it's purely because of PMS, busyness, or truly an inner drying-up. Haven't been spending time with God, or reading my Bible. Just been idling along.

I keep saying I'll update later… and yes, I actually mean it. "Later" is very subjective.

Of Hairspray and Glitter

I don’t actually get to use any glitter for my musical because of the character I have to play, but there’s a great deal of hairspray involved.

Anyway!

Today was the promotional show for the musical. We performed my scene for my church’s community event, Christmas at the Park @Central park, Phileo Damansara Business Centre. :) Energy like never before, people! Prayed like mad before the scene, but once we stepped into the lights and smoke, all nervousness vanished–at least for me. It was a great start, everyone. Now we need to sustain the energy for the last leg of rehearsals + the 5 shows that begin on Christmas day! Can’t wait for show days.

On a good note, I also finished my BS selectives report yesterday. :) 3 days early! All that’s left is prep for our group presentation, then MY HOLIDAYS OFFICIALLY BEGIN! WOO-HOO! Short promo: the humanities selectives class is showcasing a musical version of Oedipus tomorrow! My voice makes a cameo in three of their short songs. Haha. Go and support them! I wanted to go, but am tied up with rehearsals…

The line “I knew that I’d get like this again, that’s why I try to keep at bay” from Immi’s song Half Life is running through my head now. I’ve been indulging myself in way too many visions of fantasy romances a la “Wicked” the musical. That song, As Long As You’re Mine? Been on repeat in my car stereo for way too long. It makes my imagination really run wild, wayyy to wild into the future about things that could possibly make me happy. Haha. Probably even better than the real thing itself…

Dear God, is it time?

I ask, and I’ll continue to surrender and wait… but not without the customary daydreaming beforehand. :)

Comeee what mayyyyy ~♪

It’s the SEASON OF THE YEAR! the musical

I know it’s quite late to do promo, seeing that the show is less than 2 week away.. but nevertheless! PREEE-SENTINGGG….

Yes, you already guessed it–I’m playing a role in it hence the shameless promo, ha ha.

Showtimes are~
25th December: 10.00am & 8.00pm
26th December: 2.30pm & 8.00pm
27th December: 7.30pm

5 SHOWS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

You will require a ticket for entry, but tickets are FOC! They are merely to prevent overflow of the auditorium.

However, I heard that tickets are running out really fast, so please check out my church’s website for more information!

What’s the musical about? Well, its a journey following the Lee Family through the Christmas season, and the various events that crop up along the wau. The central message of the musical is that there is more to life. If you’re expecting a shiny, Las-Vegas-y musical filled with sinful fun and delinquents, you’ll be surprised. Season of the Year! takes Christmas and life down to a gritty, truthful, even uncomfortable, core.

My character is the daughter in the family. If you want to know what she’s like, you have to watch it to understand. All I can say is that it’s been a real challenge to undertake the role because she’s nothing like me in real life… You might be afraid of me even, haha.

Nothing to do for Christmas? Interested in seeing a great show for free? Call the SIBKL office at +603-7957 2701 now!

SEE YOU THERE! :DD

Sense of Accomplishment

Yup. It’s been an okay week. Despite not being able to meet my 1.30 target bedtime since the “treatment” plan started on Monday night, I’m on track with everything else. Tonight, I was able to write about 50% of my selectives report, leaving the other half for when I get more data about the treatment phase in my project. Ah, bliss; one worry lessened. Hung out with Rae & David while writing it. Rae studied for her last exam, which is tomorrow. All the best, love! :) Dea’s at a camp right now, can’t wait for her to come back so we can all hang out and update each other fully!

Also, I bought the OldTown White Coffee 2010 organizer. I couldn’t resist after Rae showed me how she customized hers to look very chio! Having second thoughts now, though–I’m really quite attached to my Starbucks 2009 organizer and was really looking forward to making my own refills… We’ll see how I feel after selectives end and I have less on my mind.

Attended meetings for the IMU Ball and MEDT1/08 convocation magazine planning this week. There’s a lot to do, and not that much time left; need to make good use of time. We have good committees for both things, so hopefully the enthusiasm keeps up and everything falls into place before deadlines creep up on us. Semester 5 won’t be as light as Semester 4, especially with the heavy-duty MSK & CNS!

Musical rehearsals aren’t letting up anytime soon, with performance dates approaching mercilessly. Oh, if you want to attend, you need to tell me by Friday so that I can put in my request for tickets! They’re fast running out. For more information, see the Facebook invite that I sent out for “Season of the Year! the Musical“. :) It’ll be held in my church, SIBKL. A 5-performance run beginning Christmas day. You get to see me play an interesting character–very unlike who I am in real life. It’s been a real journey. The script for the musical is completely original, as are the songs (with the exception of one parody). Admission is free, so what are you waiting for?

It’s a little sad that I can’t do much in the days leading up to Christmas–will be heavily involved in the final practices for the musical. But at the same time, when all the performance excitement is over, I’ll hunger for more again… Self-control, Jade! There’s a flipside to every coin. :)

I’m in a strange mood right now. Don’t know how to describe it–somewhat peaceful and wistful about life.

Had a nice dream yesterday.

(Could be the caffeine from the xi mut milk tea I had earlier.)

IMUCF+CSS: Christmas 2009

NB: Long post, so it’s been truncated into a “click me to read more” format. :)

So! These two days have been nonstop days of sugar and fun. :)) MERRY CHRISTMAS! For this year’s Christmas celebration by IMU’s CF+CSS (Christian Fellowship + Catholic Students’ Society), I didn’t sing/perform, but instead, I helped plan the doorgifts. I love making pretty things (and no, Ben, not babies).

Yesterday, the CF peoples helped make the doorgifts, which were customized bookmarks + shiny plastic star accessory + swirly lollipop + pretty ribbon! I’d pre-bought everything on Monday & Tuesday, so it was just an assembly line last night as we bertungkus-lumus-ed to finish making all 450 of the gifts… phew!

A separate bunch of 24 were also made for lecturers/staff, which were decorated tealight candles + glass tealight holders wrapped up in fancy tissue wrap. The extras ended up being given out as trivia prizes. Many thanks to everyone who helped to make the doorgifts: those who sketched stars, cut the stars, punched holes in the bookmarks & stars, glued the bookmarks, cut the ribbons, tied the ribbons… et cetera. :) Many hands really made the work more enjoyable & faster!

Back to today!

Crazy Week–check.

I HATE BEING SICK!

But anyway, crazy week is over… and all that’s left now is a friend’s wedding before there’s absolutely nothing to do and I will become library furniture for a good 3 weeks. Hello November! :))) you mean Christmas is coming soon! I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

Here are the things I did last week:

The crowd at acoustic night. :) Thanks, guys!

Tuesday: Acoustic night @ the dance room, IMU. Turnout was awesome–about 50 or 60 peeps showed up to support, play, or watch. Of course, the food was a success. Thank you so much, Faye-sama, MY-sama, and Su Ann for the cooking and chopping!! And definitely, thank you to the photographers, Tay & Esther. :))

The group song at the closing, Here in My Home.

Thursday: Flavors of Malaysia @ Atrium, IMU. I wore a kebaya-cheongsam, borrowed from Farah. Got a lot of compliments! Turnout was, again, more than we expected, but due to not-so-great planning and a lot of underexpectations, we ran out of food and encountered a few problems. Apologies to those who bought coupons but didn’t get to use them all… T_T; Thank you for your support, though! Nevertheless, we had fun!

The spooky/kinky group amongst the graves...

Friday: Hallowe’en night @ Chancellor hall, IMU. I went as a Japanese schoolgirl, with a rotan. So did Esther, but without the spanky item. Deco was awesome, food was okay (I didn’t like the spicyness because I had a sore throat, but whatever), and costumes were really spectacular! :) People really dressed up! The last time I saw that was about 2 years ago at Kings’ halloween dance. The dancefloor didn’t quite work out because of the lecture hall sound system, but the BAKING WAS AWESOME. <3 I luff Faye-sama’s pumpkin cake & pumpkin tarts.

Me & Alice, the fantastic bride-to-be!

Saturday: Alice’s Hen Night @ Souled Out, Hartamas. Dresscode for the ladies was a white top with jeans, and the bride can wear whatever she wants. No naughty pix disclosed publicly, just one of me and the bride. ;) It was, indeed, a fun night out for the bride, complete with some cute guys, albeit a bit older. I’ll be ji mui  and singing at her wedding this coming Saturday! :)))

Off to IMU now. :) I’ve got to prepare for CSU. Bye, loves, and happy November!!

Events Management

Sometimes, I feel like I’m in events management as opposed to studying medicine. Oh well. Here’s what I’ve been up to for the past few weeks instead of studying. (30 DAYS TO EXAM OMIGAWDDDDD SOMEONE HELP ME)

Presenting…

ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC NIGHT on the 27th of October, Tuesday, 7-11pm @ the Dance Studio, IMU BJ campus.

acoust

Acoustic Night is an open mic event organized by the Music & Performance club of the International Medical University, Bukit Jalil campus. :) No entrance fee, no hidden charges. Expect a casual, light-hearted, chillout evening full of unique acoustic performers, each carrying their own styles and emotive rhythms. Soulful songs, converted R’n’B tracks, locally-penned anthems, self-written ditties and cheeky love songs are the order of the night. This is the 2nd time the acoustic night is being held, in lieu of the successful 1st night in August. Oh, and don’t forget the awesome company, FREE food, and random moments of laughter and fun. We might even have professors performing. SEE YOU THERE!

FLAVORS OF MALAYSIA, the ME1/08 Malaysian studies final project, on the 29th of October, Thursday, 11am-3pm @ the Atrium, IMU BJ campus.

poster

Flavors of Malaysia, so named for being a festival to celebrate the rich culinary culture and tradition of Malaysia, is ME1/08’s Malaysian Studies final project. What to expect? A multitude of palate-teasing dishes from major ethnic cooking methods will be on sale in a food fair, as well as the chance to win exciting prizes (HINT HINT: MOVIE TICKETS) in a few tricky, skill-requiring games booths. To entertain you while you dine in a unique restaurant-style setting, there will be fantastic performances from the major ethnic groups of Malaysia, by IMU local talents. ;) Expect lots of shimmying, but we’re not saying who! And last but not least, should you be the type that likes to read and learn, take a leisurely stroll around the atrium to experience our exhibition displays about the culinary culture of Malaysia! Come join our celebration of Malaysia’s plurality by donning your ever-so-brightly-colored national costume, and tucking in to the vast array of grub awaiting your gustatory senses! (this project is also in support of the MEDT1/08 convocation magazine fund)

That’s it for now. ;) Of course, there’s a Hallowe’en Night that IMU’s organizing on the night of the 30th, but all I’m doing there is emceeing (thankfully) with Korwoi. If you’re interested in attending, give me a buzz and I’ll pick a ticket up for you. RM12 each, and proceeds go to charity (to fund a kampung angkat orang asli’s water supply project).

IMU Cup Scrabble 2009

scrabble-lettersComing to you this Saturday, the 3rd of October. 8.oo am til 3.oo pm, at Chancellor Hall, IMU BJ Campus. Rustle the dictionary and flex those fingers–the wordplay excitement is coming back into this lowly medical campus by manner of the annual IMU Cup competition.

Hella tired organizing and planning for it with Navin amidst all the other stuff on my to-do list. Hope it’ll run smooth–shouldn’t be too hard to get things going and keep them going. “Tournament Director” sounds like a fancy-schmancy title, but really, we run around and do the hard labour, haha.

choc-scrabble

:) May the most scrabbulous team win!

My brain is soaking in alphabet soup right now. Gogogo three-letter wordlist.

Breathtaking : SIBKL Live Recording

My church’s worship album DVD Live Recording. It was on the 19th & 20th of September, this past weekend.

breathtaking

It was amazing, mindblowing, and utterly displaying God’s splendor & glory.

congregation

It’s been such a blessing & honor to be a part of this fantastic weekend; words cannot describe how much went into it, and how much God’s hand worked through it, aaaand how many lives were touched. The songs are still running through my head.

TASK = CASK indeed! (Character, Attitude, Skill & Knowledge)

castandcrew

Album release on 24th October 2009–stay tuned! :) There are some truly beautiful songs on this album, and I can’t wait for it to come out. All but two of them are originals–and even the “covers” have original parts penned & inserted into them. DON’T FORGET TO GET A COPY!!!

Music is my life

When I enjoy what I do, the audience does too. :)

premarital

This weekend has been absolutely nuts in terms of practice and preparation, but so very worth it. :) This is just a shortie before I head to bed… need to be up at 7am tomorrow for make-up, warm-up, and sound-check. Oh! And dimsum too. :D

Flipside

Hi all.

Smack me, I’ve been a lazy blogger.

We-ell, a LOT of things have happened, and I can’t help but feel that I’m moving into a different phase of my life now. This semester feels really different from past semesters in the sense that it’s not as busy as previous ones academically, but more taxing on the extra-curricular side.

This is an uber-long catchup post, so click if you wanna read more about what I’ve been doing in the weeks that I’ve been missing.

Black Lychee Tea

cha

…is what I’m drinking as I sit in front of my laptop, mind in a drug-induced haze. I love this particular flavor of tea because it has a cloying, sweet smell of lychee, yet the solid, strong taste of black tea. Good enough to drink on its own.

Forgotten what it’s like being sick for a while, now. Of all times for it to come remind me. I have little to no appetite. Can’t enjoy tea fully because I can’t smell.

Umm, what’s the point of this blogpost?

Let’s see…

Prep for The Color of Passion is going well. Finished shopping for decor last Monday, finished making invites by last Wednesday, finalized the location and catering today. :)

Hair is done.

Cake is not.

Can’t sing because my throat frickin hurts.

Yes yes yes I’m grumpy. So sue me. >(

Trying to organize an acoustic jam & open mic on the 14th of August as another IMU Music & Performance Club activity, seriously haven’t had the mood to make a poster and do shameless promo across the batch blogs. Keep your eyes open and ears tuned for Acoustic August

A ton of Draco House stuff to do.. just opened my email and saw it all. D: Why does it all have to come when we’re on holidays? I wish they’d just stuck to the batch system… It was easier and seriously, more fun because we “grew up” from day one of uni with those people. Well, whatever it is, I honestly hope the IMU Cup won’t be a flop. :/

My little breath of fresh air are the X’mas musical practices every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon. :) Things I love, people I love, for a God I love.

Please keep me in prayers… I know I should find my joy in the Lord! AAArgh!! Sorry for being grumpy. :((((
