I said a prayer and fell asleep.

5 Dec

We play guess the song in the title once again :)

Anyway. It’s almost as if whenever I have the least to do, I am less inclined to write, but when I have the most to do, I am most inclined to write. Something I’ll never understand! :) So here I am, once again, with two reports due in two weeks, but stubbornly wanting to write here instead.

One of these reports is a case report, based on a real patient whom I met under my consultant. The other is a reflective report of sorts, based on my attachment at this residential care unit for children with complex health needs. Both, at present, are equally unappealing to me–the former for its mentally taxing nature, and the latter for its requirements and coerced reflection on the quality of teamwork.

:( I am behind schedule in how I planned to go about completing these reports.

Hopefully, tomorrow will yield better results.

On a separate but not-totally-unrelated note, Psalm 27 has popped up a lot in the past week: my devotion, Pastor Edmund’s sharing, prep for worship, church, PCCF… Getting this feeling that I should print it out and tack it onto my wall so it can truly serve as a reminder for this forgetful, treacherous heart.

Can you tell that my mood is low? :)

Katy Perry’s Hummingbird Heartbeat is a lovely song, if not for the at-times dodgy lyrics. Plan to do a cover of it.

You give me that hummingbird heartbeat
Spread my wings and make me fly
The taste of your honey is so sweet
When you give me that hummingbird heartbeat, hummingbird heartbeat.

Not entirely certain, but what the hey!

27 Apr

It was really an onslaught of encouragements today, wound up by a fun jamming slash practice session for Friday’s Acoustic Night @ the Dance room (and some of the smoothest wine I’ve EVER tasted, mmm). It’s at 7 p.m., y’all. :) Do drop by and lend your support, or just hang out and enjoy some good, honest music.

Err, covered not very many notes at all, got owned in PBL by Dr. NKM (as usual), was sleepy as hell, and drugged out by my meds. Found a new sleeping spot. Sorry to those who encountered me in that sorry state.

I wish I can survive with 4 hours of sleep every day. That would give me so. much. time.

Mood seems to have passed. Thanks, everyone. :)

Distraction or Inspiration? Or rather, the breakdown.

26 Apr

(This is a long post, and probably highly irrelevant. But if you still want to look inside my mind, by all means you may continue, and read it.)

Sometimes, I feel like this tree. This is one of those times.

It’s terrible to get distracted now, in Semester 5, with the EOS 5 creeping up–just over a month away. Ask anyone from ME1/08 and they’ll agree to that.

No mojo

12 Feb

No mojo to blog recently;

Although life has, as usual, been busy.

So here’s a dreary update post… real sorry about that.

What have I been doing? Well, a lot of IMU ball stuff. :) We’ve sold 10 tables so far, and raised about 10% of the money needed… Sponsors are difficult to find, but hopefully things pick up after CNY. If any of you readers know or work for a company that might sponsor products or funding for a medical university grad ball, do contact me!

Been selling little candy bouquets & roses for Valentine’s day in IMU–apparently our boys are no less romantic than the general public. 100 roses sold out in 3 days! Haha. A much better response than expected.

My room has regressed to pre-spring-cleaning state. Hmm. Trying to keep the clutter manageable is a tad difficult though. Maybe I’ll clean it up on Saturday… after shopping.

Been expanding my music collection again: discovered this amazing guy called Sam Sparro. :) He mixes funk and soul with an electronic drive–love his old school voice! Can’t get his song, Black & Gold, out of my head. Youtube him and have a listen; you won’t be disappointed. His songs aren’t about the typical love mush stuff–they’ve got messages and questions that make you think, but you won’t notice them at first.

Oh, and on the 7th I sang for SIBKL’s Valentine’s night with Michel. Our band was Merlvyn & my brother, Matt, on acoustic guitars, and Daryll on percussion. It was a nice, relaxed evening–a much fancier affair than last year’s, though.

Yeahhh that’s about all I can dig out of my brain. So tired these days… must be my monthly friend.

Jade out.

I watch you, and the way you move

22 Jan

There are four things that I blame this dream on:

1) Watching a rebellz photoshoot by Joe Low yesterday
2) Talking to Mike about all things Canada
3) Googling Liu Wen, the first Chinese VS Angel
4) My morning wake-up song (I Watch You by Lee Cabrera ft. MIM)

SO.

Last night I had the most bizarre dream (that somewhat made sense when I thought deeply about all the connections).

You know how dreams are–you never remember how exactly they started or how you got to be where you are in the dream where memory begins.

I was in this huge hall that was a cross between Chee Wee & Alice’s wedding solemnization hall and the Sunway Convention center hall where Comifest was held two years ago. There was some familiar house music thumping in the hall (probably something off of my MOS playlist). Some black DJ guy.

Who was I? A 4′ 11″ model, 100000x skinnier than my present size, wearing some funky club-inspired togs that were red, black, silk, and not very conservative. Oh, let’s not forget the killer platforms and hooker boots. There were a few of us, in these huge, suspended glass boxes with props. There were like.. a million photographers on various ladders, balconies, etc. with their flashing lights aimed at us. We kept posing, in time to the heavy beats the DJ was pumping out.

Eventually it was time for us to take a break, so I got out and instantly fell into the crowd, where I regained balance after being moshed for a while. Out of nowhere, I spotted Ben Reed, my high school bestie, walking around with Deadmau5. I screamed at him and jumped into his arms, totally clinging on and glomping him as he yelled back at me.

“OMG BEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!??”
“JADEY!! I MISS YOU SO MUCH YOU CRAZY ASIAN!!”

Then Paul Chavady appears, with full beard in tow.

“HEYYYY!!!”

I swing into his arms, jumping off of Ben. We totally scream each others’ names like girls.. in that annoying, drawn-out style until… Mike appears. We shut up and I just stare at him, before he waves, smiles and goes off with some guy who looks like Basshunter.

I jump out of Paul’s arms to follow Mike, weaving in and out of the crowd until I end up outside the hall. The music switches to a mashup of Akon’s Sexy Bitch and Kid Cudi’s Day N’ Night (which, IMHO, would be a really hot mashup). I dance along to the beat and enter this small room with red, shiny, metallic walls and a door like the one in Alice in Wonderland.

There’s a photographer inside, who looks vaguely familiar. Two people in addition to him: Fedde Le Grand (of all people…) and this anorexic-type model with massive fantasy makeup. She’s posing around him with these red lava lamps and glitter glowsticks, but none of them look happy about it. Suddenly, she throws all the props down and climbs up the skylight (which mysteriously appeared), cursing at them.

Fedde turns around and sees me, saying “You try, she’s hopeless.” It’s a promotional shot for his upcoming club tour. SO the posing begins and it gets kinda kinky. “Let me think about it” is playing in the background.

In short, it was successful, and when it was over I climbed out the same skylight, into a room with Armin van Buuren. He starts speaking to me in Dutch with this wide smile on his face, but I’m shaking my head like I don’t understand a thing. He asks me if I’ve heard a certain song, and I’m just confused and can’t answer him.

Lee Cabrera’s “I watch you” starts playing really loudly, and after a while I realize it’s my alarm.

What a way to wake up to my lumpy, nerdy self.

<3

NB: For those who may not know, what made sense was Paul & Ben being at the techno/house party because they like that kind of music. And the clothes I imagined on the models looked like what Liu Wen wore for the VS show. One of the models looked like a model from the Joe Low shoot.

True brain diarrhoea.

Into your gravity

20 Jan

Set me free, leave me be

I don’t want to fall another moment into your gravity

Here I am, and I stand so tall

Just the way I’m supposed to be

But you’re on to me, and all over me…

Hopelessly fell in love with his deep, manly voice: those lips emit a killer flow. Trapped even more by his roguish good looks: chameleon-esque in the sense that he can be sophisticated or urban (or bishounen) in the blink of an eye. Arghh! Men in suits make me weak at the knees. (keyword: men)

You can examine me any day, oppa.He even likes cute useless things! Like me! Le sighh.

Once upon a time, I didn’t like BIGBANG because I found their music arrangements disjointed, and G-Dragon’s whiny voice (and odd hair) annoyed me. After the release of GD’s solo effort, “Heartbreaker” (the song that got me was “Butterfly”, coupled with that absolutely captivating PV), and the advent of BIGBANG’s “Koe wo kikasete”…

I think I’ve changed my mind. <33333

It was amazing, mindblowing, and utterly displaying God’s splendor & glory.

congregation

It’s been such a blessing & honor to be a part of this fantastic weekend; words cannot describe how much went into it, and how much God’s hand worked through it, aaaand how many lives were touched. The songs are still running through my head.

Never need more than that

8 Sep

September marks the middle of autumn. It’s been a strange two weeks since classes began. Apologies for the lack of updates, I haven’t felt any need or drive to do so… Though I have done a lot.

I present to you, Half Life by Imogen Heap, off of her latest album, Ellipse.

My latest obsession.

I knew that I’d get like this again
That’s why I try to keep at bay
Be a hundred percent when I’m with you and then
The perfect heart’s length away

The stickler is you’ve played not one beat wrong
You never promised me anything
Even sat me down and warned me just how they fall
I knew the odds were I’d never win

Yet here I am

It’s a half life
With you as my quarterback
A daft life

My self-worth measured in text back tempo
It’s been two days and 8 minutes too slow
Well there may well be others but I still like to pretend
That I’m the one you really want to grow old with

Got a schedule to stick to, got a world to keep sweet
You’re so much to everyone all the time
Will you ever slow down? Will I ever come first?
The universe contracts to sigh

It’s a half life
With you as my quarterback
A daft life

Hold me, hold me, hold me
Darling, please

You know you’ll never be lonely, no you’ll always be loved
And maybe you never need more than that
But for the surplus that loves, what’s to become of us?
Does it even register on your conscience?

Long for one last showdown from a box in a crowd
Air compressed tight to explode
I’m clenching my ticket to the only way out
As you disappear in a puff of smoke

It’s a half life
With you as my quarterback
A daft life

Say it somehow, I will understand

4 Aug

The Light in the Piazza, a Tony Award-winning musical by Adam Guettal, is my latest obsession. It’s the story of a fragile and tender love, set in Italy. Clara Johnson (Katie Clarke) and Fabrizzio Nacarrelli (Aaron Lazar), two fragile yet intense characters, sing of their love in this chillingly beautiful duet, “Say it Somehow”. Language barrier aside, the two fight to speak to each other what their hearts are bursting with.

Makes one wonder how anyone can write like this. The harmonies without words, soul to soul, heart to heart, the desperation and urgency… Too bad I’m not caucasian, and neither am I blonde–won’t be able to play this role if ever the chance passes by, which itself is another distant dream. BUT OH, HOW I WOULD LOVE TO SING HER ROLE. The music is so haunting and gorgeous… Unlike other musicals I’ve listened to before.

I should go back into vocal lessons. But most teachers here are classical… :( Broadway please!

Knock, Knock

24 Jun

I wrote a song while studying, but I’m only going to share the first part of it up until the chorus with you.

Enjoy, s’il vous plait.

———————————

 Knock, knock — who’s there? It’s me
At the door of your heart
Won’t you let me in?
Cuz you know I’m waiting

Knock, knock — don’t run, don’t hide
Throw away those locks
You won’t need the keys
You won’t use them no more

Cuz you & I were meant to be
Don’t try to play it cool
I can see that blush
I can see that rush
See baby, I’m not fooled

You can play it coy and close the door
But I know you’re right there waiting
You can play hard to get, and ask for more
But I know you’re lying
I love you, and you love me
See it ain’t that hard
So quit your games, come out and play
Baby, just open the door

Expect to hear this album very soon. More details to be revealed shortly. Keep en eye on: www.mutemath.com for future announcements, tour dates, merch, special offers and much more.

Taken from their Facebook page.

To understand my love for the band, check out this video–one of their latest. I love their music. Love their videos. Love them live. They have this passionate desperation, screaming to be heard, pulsating with life and eccentricity, not caring who hears them and who sees them–they play their music as it is. Mutemath. <3

And yes, I’ve met them before. :D When they came down for the YouthQuake concert in Feb ’06, way back in Briercrest/Caronport. They weren’t the headliners but I enjoyed them WAY MORE than the headliners. AND I HAVE A SIGNED ALBUM SQUEEE.

Me & 75% of the boys from MUTEMATH! One of them was signing albums. Or in the men's. I dunno.

MUTEMATH FTW!! I CAN’T WAIT FOR THEIR NEW ALBUM!!!

Panic (at the library)

18 May

IT FEELS LIKE NOTHING’S GOING IN.

nerdspace

HELLO, NEURONS?? DO SOME SYNAPSING! I don’t feed you for nothing…

Friday’s getting awfully close.

Maybe imagining myself on the dancefloor grooving to Daichi Miura/ravex/Adam Lambert/MasaMIXES/BoA while trying to memorize drugs that affect GIT motility isn’t the most conducive way to study.

But at the same time,

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (NIV, emphasis mine)

I’m such a worrywart. Comparisons don’t help. Do my best, He’ll do the rest.

As usual. :)

Help me with my unbelief!

Japan’s JT: Daichi Miura

16 May

Yesterday, I found a gay hottie who could sing (Adam Lambert).

Today, I find a straight not-so-hot dude who can HELLA SING AND DANCE. He got the moooves yo. And a voice as smooth as a perfectly blended milkshake. Touted as Japan’s own Justin Timberlake, Daichi Miura is probably one of their best-kept R n’B secrets.

BUT I FOUND HIM NYAHAHA TOO BAD FOR YOU AVEX. The song I’m showcasing here even sounds a little like JT. No points for guessing which song. ;) Preeee-senting the talented 22-year-old Daichi Miura.

PHWOAR ADAM LAMBERT ♡

15 May

adam-lambert-is-hot

My new celebrity crush. Hawt like a burning dancefloor waiting to explode. One of the American Idol Final two.

He comes from a Broadway background (!!!), but sings like a teasing, taunting sex god. I’d dance to this track anytime. In fact, it made me get up and shimmy a little in front of the mirror.

Got shivers listening to his cover of Mad World. Discovered that he sang Dancing Through Life from the musical Wicked as the character Fiyero–one of my favourite songs.

Adam Lambert, where have you been all my life?
And why, WHY are there pictures of you in drag and kissing men plastered all over the internets?

The hot men are -all- too good to be true.
