Whenever the sun sets.

13 May

photo-heavy post! xx

It’s been a while! :) Since I last wrote, lots of things have happened, but most things have stayed unchanged. For example, the fact that I’m still in medical school (phew) hasn’t changed… though I will be done in 2 years! Rather exciting, yet nerve-wracking at the same time.

To sum up the two months between the last post and now, my boyfriend came to spend the entire spring break with me!

Fresh off the train. xx

Yawshing’s 21st & The Opera @Sunway

15 Jan

Yawshing’s 21st is actually on the 19th of Jan, but he decided to celebrate it early since next week was going to be GP postings back in Penang for him.

He cleaned up well! :) The nine of us (including Mira’s boyfriend) had a lovely dinner at Monte’s @Bangsar Shopping Center. Monte’s is a restaurant & wine bar, which I think has food that is pretty good value for money. It’s not exorbitant, but prices are to be expected for a place like that. Portions were okay. Wasn’t feeling too hungry, so I just had the carrot & pumpkin soup along with the chicken & mushroom spaghetti off of the kids’ menu. Both were pretty good–the soup was sweet and creamy, and the spag was just right as well as just the right amount. Didn’t get jelak. :)

Yes, we medics know how to have fun. ;) Apparently it’s a Tamil (or Hindu? sorry, not very good at this stuff) tradition to feed the family cake after you blow the candles and cut it… And feed he did, lol. I left early to catch the late dregs of cell, so not quite sure what happened after that. However, I did meet up with them later at The Opera, a new club at Sunway that we decided to check out.

Happy birthday to me!

8 Aug

As of the 8th of August, 2009, 11.10pm, I am officially 21! :D

Celebrated my coming-of-age-of-sorts with a whole horde of family and friends.

Will blog soon about it. Super tired and recovering.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!! :D I am so happy. So very loved and happy. xx

Black Lychee Tea

3 Aug

cha

…is what I’m drinking as I sit in front of my laptop, mind in a drug-induced haze. I love this particular flavor of tea because it has a cloying, sweet smell of lychee, yet the solid, strong taste of black tea. Good enough to drink on its own.

Forgotten what it’s like being sick for a while, now. Of all times for it to come remind me. I have little to no appetite. Can’t enjoy tea fully because I can’t smell.

Umm, what’s the point of this blogpost?

Let’s see…

Prep for The Color of Passion is going well. Finished shopping for decor last Monday, finished making invites by last Wednesday, finalized the location and catering today. :)

Hair is done.

Cake is not.

Can’t sing because my throat frickin hurts.

Yes yes yes I’m grumpy. So sue me. >(

Trying to organize an acoustic jam & open mic on the 14th of August as another IMU Music & Performance Club activity, seriously haven’t had the mood to make a poster and do shameless promo across the batch blogs. Keep your eyes open and ears tuned for Acoustic August

A ton of Draco House stuff to do.. just opened my email and saw it all. D: Why does it all have to come when we’re on holidays? I wish they’d just stuck to the batch system… It was easier and seriously, more fun because we “grew up” from day one of uni with those people. Well, whatever it is, I honestly hope the IMU Cup won’t be a flop. :/

My little breath of fresh air are the X’mas musical practices every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon. :) Things I love, people I love, for a God I love.

Please keep me in prayers… I know I should find my joy in the Lord! AAArgh!! Sorry for being grumpy. :((((

Happy Birthday, Dea-chan!

1 Mar

Wishing the most GORGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL, and TALENTED LADY in my life a HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY! <3

dearin

Dear Dea-chan, we’ve been friends for 11 years and counting now, and I’ve loved every single moment of it! Even though I’m not the most awesome friend and hardly manage to see you from time to time, I still love you lots, and want you to know I am ALWAYS ALWAYS here if you need me. <3

It’s been an awesome time knowing you since you were 10… The first memory I have of you is when you taught me how to fold origami in class (or was it the other way ’round?) and you exclaimed, “Li Yen, you’re so nice!!” Hehe.

All those times that we skipped class to “practice piano” for the SKKT Prizegiving ceremonies, hanging out with Encik Ghazali in the music room, trading off on the little keyboard that was blasted over the main speakers, and exchanging Sailormoon stickers… Making FF8 Triple Triad cards when we went through the fangirl phase (me loving Squall and you loving his father, Laguna Loire, president of Esthar…), writing fanfiction, making up love stories, watching the FFX underwater kissing scene 40 times over in your upstairs TV area, playing FF music on piano, teasing you about your cockroach man (Gojyo, right?) and the one that looked like a woman (Tokiya Mikagami :D hehehe), and all the other “men” in your life. :P

Then when we went into secondary school, we were separated but still hung out and did dumb stuff together–I have photos to prove it! Our “dress-up” as all our favorite characters, the overnight stay at Duta Vista and masquerading as Japanese peoples in your yukata, attending Bon Odori, random crazy hysterical times in my old room (which was never tidy, and still never is, haha)… OHHH, and don’t forget the time we made our first website together: The Kawaii Shinzo clique. Then it was the “Broken Dolls” phase + Gothic clothes, which I think we’re all still into. :P

Now, we’re all grown up and in med school together, where we occasionally see each other because I’m too busy working my butt off doing 100 000 000 things that I can get my hands on, and you’re off happily doing things in your usual, quiet little way.

Dea, I think you are truly a beautiful woman. You possess an inner, tensile strength that has enabled you to just cruise through life even though challenges are thrown your way. Your exterior is a polished, smooth veneer that speaks of elegance and refinement, yet for all I know of you, you’re a cute, sweet little goof that is secretly blur and disorientated at times. Hehe.

And now, you’re OFFICIALLY an adult! Wow. We’ve grown up together, from little girls to teenagers to adults. Remember our song and your verse in it? :P

In moonlit shadows of darkened nights
I wait in silence for the coming light;
To think I’m one– To think I’m whole
I’m but a patchwork with many folds.

You are a patchwork of a gajillion talents, abilities, and capabilities. <3 And you are beautiful. I’m so honored to be your best friend of 11 years, and so proud of you, Dea-chan. I hope that today will be one of the most special days in your life, and that you will always have the best memories of the day you officially hit adulthood. I wish you all the happiness in the world, all the strength and confidence in the world, all the intelligence and ability to become a FANTASTIC doctor cum astrologer cum manga-ka cum model (hehe, childhood ambition?), and ALL THE LOVE I CAN GIVE!!!!

HAPPY HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY TO MY BELOVED DEA-CHAN!!!! <3333333333333333 I LOVE YOU TONS HONEYY!!! GO ROCK THE WORLD!!!!

p/s – I’ll eat chicken (with bones) in public for you anytime.

Knowing God’s Will

27 Nov

That was, in a sense, what I got out of last night’s cell group discussion. Pastor Chew our senior pastor, dropped by to visit our cell, so it was a big, informal Q&A session about anything under the sun that we wanted to ask him. I really admire Pastor because he’s such a humble man, and very down-to-earth about everything. He’s totally honest, and even when answering our questions, there was this sense of him answering out of his humble understanding and opinion, not pretending to know everything that God is. He has such a gentle spirit, and everytime I listen to him, I can’t help but feel how much he loves us, his flock, and wants to share God’s heart with us… It’s so inspiring!

Yesterday was a lovely day. I only woke up around 1pm (hello, holidays…), played RO for a bit, watched Densha Otoko (a Japanese romance flick; a cute love story about a nerd finding true love, hahaha), then got ready for cell group. Drove Patrick & Jon there, we had the awe-inspiring Q&A session, celebrated Jon’s birthday again, then came home. I get to go dancing again, later today! :)) Heading down to Euphoria once again, to get my ears tortured by the beats and legs shaken by the thumping dancefloor.

But yes, back to God’s will. The BIGGEST question, I feel, when it comes to this topic, is often “How do I know what is God’s will for my life?” This could come into one’s life from many, many different angles. What’s God’s will for my relationship? My career? My friends? My activities? What I gathered was that it’s got a lot to do with asking God through prayer, then being willing to wait it out for an answer. And what’s the answer? The peace of God.

Pastor summed it up with: (a) What we want may not be what God’s will is for us, so be OPEN, and inquire of God through prayer, (b) The Holy Spirit who lives in us has the ability to tell us if our choice is within God’s will or not, for those choices that require some “common sense”; after all, God has sent the Holy Spirit to guide us as our conscience, and (c) The peace of God will come to you if you are treading the right path. 2 Corinthians 2:12 – Paul speaks of how he saw an open door to preach in a certain city, but because he didn’t feel the peace of God, he left that opportunity to preach and went elsewhere.

The peace of God is more important than an open door.

So what if God is silent? You listen, but you don’t hear anything? Then, dear friends, wait. Sit tight and keep asking, keep seeking. While you’re doing that, search yourself, because if we consider sin in our heart, God does not answer our prayers! Pastor used a rather amusing illustration for this: “You don’t jump out of a moving train that is in a dark tunnel.” You might be groping in the dark, unable to see an answer, but we shouldn’t jump ahead and rush a decision. Waiting is best, though by out human nature we tend to grow impatient and jump the gun anyway. :P Guilty as charged!

The night ended with Pastor leaving us with Micah 6:8 – What God requires of us is simply to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. Amen. :) It was truly an uplifting, and WONDERFUL session. I learnt a lot–this bit about God’s will is just a little chunk of the evening, but I felt I needed to share it.

Today is also JO ANN PHANG a.k.a. HAMMY’S 19TH BIRTHDAY!!!! Happy birthday, Jo luv! I typed out all my birthday greeting DEUX: once in a text message, and the other on your facebook wall, so I’m too lazy to write it all over again. But you know that I love you, and am always praying for the best for you–that God may give you your heart’s desires with them being WITHIN HIS WILL! Hahaha. God bless, luv, and have a blast! This is, after all, your last teenage year. ;)
